Top 10 Things You Should Know!
1. My main goals throughout the year are:
2. Attendance and lunch count will be taken at 9:05 a.m. If your child arrives later than this time, he will need to check-in with Mrs. Crowley at the front office. She will hand your child a pink tardy slip that states whether or not it is excused. After your child shows me the tardy slip, it will go home for you to see. You do not need to return the slip back to me.
3. If your child is absent, I will try my best to send work with his sibling or "homework buddy/neighbor". Please fill out the Sibling/Homework Buddy sheet so I know who to send home work with. If your preference is to pick it up from the office, please let me know. If you were unable to attend Parent Night, please email me the name(s) of siblings and their classroom teacher or a neighbor who would be willing to drop off work for your child. Please email me and CC Mrs. Crowley when you know your child will be absent.
4. Assignment notebooks are filled out throughout the day. It is your child's responsibility to copy what is on the Homework Board in class as we always fill that out together. Most nights, your child will have math homework for daily practice and an expectation to read for 20 minutes each night (using BiblioNasium). Occasionally, he will have homework in other subject areas. Tests are usually given with at least two days notice.
5. Words Their Way or WTW is our spelling program. Students are assessed at the beginning of the year to determine their spelling level/group. Your child will meet with me on Day 1 of his new spelling sort. We will sort it together. Days 2-5 will be activities he will do in class. On Day 6, your child will have a spelling test on some words from the sort, and some that aren't from the sort, but follow the pattern of the sort. Your child is always allowed to take his WTW packet home to review nightly and especially before Day 6's test.
6. Scholastic Book Club orders will go home every 4-6 weeks. You may order online which would earn some free books for our classroom library. Or you can send your order form and check to me and I will place the order. A parent letter with information on how to order online will be handed out.
7. Students may bring in a healthy snack(a fruit or vegetable) to eat each morning. In order to fully utilize our school day, we will have a "working" snack.
8. In addition to letter grades, some work will be graded using the following scale:
+ = 10/10 points
√+ = 9/10 points
√ = 8/10 points
√- = 7/10 points
- = 6/10 points
0 = 0 points (no attempt made or did not turn in)
9. Homework Late Pass - at the beginning of each month, students will receive a homework late pass that can used toward ONE assignment. He will get one extra day to complete his work without penalty.
10. Classroom Marble Parties - Our class is working on earning 5 marbles each day. We will do this by working cooperatively in class, walking quietly in the hallways, demonstrating good behavior during assemblies, and getting a good report from other teachers and substitutes. When our jar reaches 100 marbles, students will vote on how to celebrate our accomplishment. If any food is involved with the parties, I will let you know 2-3 days in advance. Expect a permission form of some sort for our classroom marble parties.
