Biblionasium...Where kids flex their reading muscles!
BiblioNasium connects educators, parents, and kids to create a reading community that will encourage your children to read more. Kids can keep track of their favorite books, log their daily reading, and win virtual awards.
I will be setting up "Reading Challenges" each month by assigning students to read at least one book in an assigned genre. September's genre is realistic fiction.
Although you do not need to join as a parent, there is also a parent component and you and your child can access BiblioNasium from home. As a parent you will then be able to see my reading lists, monitor your child's independent reading and even set up family reading challenges. If you wish, you may also want to give your child permission to connect online with friends to see what others are reading, to read book reviews, and to receive and recommend books.
The video below explains how to use the Reading Log component of BiblioNasium. Each night your child reads, he will need to log in the number of pages read, along with the number of minutes read. At the end of each week, I will check your child's reading log to collect a grade. Here is the grading scale:
100 or more minutes/week - 10 points
80-99 minutes/week - 9 points
60-79 minutes/week - 8 points
40-59 minutes/week - 7 points
20-39 minutes/week - 6 points
1-19 minutes/week - 5 points
0 minutes/week - 0 points
Together, through the use of BiblioNasium, I believe we can motivate your child to read more at home.
